TRAVEL DIARY: A DAY IN NEWCASTLE WITH NATIONAL HOLIDAYS…

plaid coats One of my goals this year is to travel around the UK and I thank God that I’ve visited about three cities so far. Hope to make it five by the end of this year (God willing). When a sister came up with a National Holidays Newcastle city break offer, I agreed. The offer comprised of the coach journey and hotel (dinner/breakfast inclusive). It was a great offer. This was my first time using National Holidays and I must say, it was an interesting experience. On arrival in Newcastle the coach parked and the driver announced that we’ve about three hours to explore the city. After that we were taken to the hotel that was booked for the travellers. I was very impressed with the choice of hotel and the services rendered. I couldn’t complain!

The only negative side was, we thought the trip was for two days (two nights) as it stated on the website, but according to the driver, two days means two days but one night. We were horrified when we were about to go sightseeing the next morning and saw all the other passengers with their suitcases boarding the coach. Confused, I asked and was told that we were heading back. Wtf!! We became a laughing stock as we had to rush back to our hotel rooms to pack and join the coach. It didn’t help that we were the only blacks there so it was twice awkward. Lol!! I felt so embarrassed, but I had to laugh it off.

In a nutshell I enjoyed the journey, but wished it was two days as stated. I hope the company will be more precise about it on their website as this will confuse first time travellers. The driver was very welcoming which prompted all the passengers to make a contribution in a bag for him. It was very kind of us the passengers if I may say so. Ha!! For short city breaks in the UK and around Europe, I think it’s not a bad idea at all. That is if you don’t mind sitting in coaches for long hours (depends which city you’re visiting). One positive thing is that you don’t have to bother about searching for hotels. It is all included in the price so they’ll take care of that. I’ll share more photos and the places we visited whiles there.

Have you travelled with National Holidays before? What do you think of my city break outfit?

Lol, It does not help when your the only blacks and that happens. A city break is a nice thing to do, if you can’t afford an overseas trip, or don’t have time to go abroad. Your outfit is appropriate for the UK weather, especially up North, lol. I love the coat Mavis : ) xo

It sounds like a cool tour. I have never toured on a Coach bus before so it seems like it could be fun. It does kind of suck that the tour company did not accurately state the time frame of the trip though.

What a cute hat! I really like that coat. You look very pretty. Travelling UK sounds fun; I can’t believe I still haven’t been to UK. I’d love to, but something always comes in way. Anyhow, I do agree with you, travel agencies need to be more specific. They often say two days or three days but they mean less nights. They should provide full information. Apart from that, it seems you had a nice experience. National holidays seems like a good way to get to know new cities in UK.

  8. October 17, 2018 / 11:15 pm

This company needs to be more clear about the number of days AND the number of nights. They are lucky if you give them another chance. I’m certain I would have done what you did. As for the people laughing…not cool. I’m sorry you had to endure that. However, I’m happy you got one day in this town. I like your pics especially the last one with you lounging. That’s my favorite. Your coat is really nice, my beautiful Mavis!

Yeah I hear you, I was annoyed when I found that out–that hotels charge you for the day you check out and not sleeping there and checkout is almost always 11:00 AM. Then they get paid again when a new guest pays for the same room and sleeps there with a 3 PM check. Hmm. So they get paid twice on the same day. It is the same with AIR BNB. Not sure how that is even allowed but it is.

I’m so happy you enjoyed your well deserved trip beautiful babe! Newcastle always sounds brilliant and I’m utterly obsessed with your gorgeous outfit; that green and blue tartan coat is a gem on your divine self 😀 So sorry to hear about the inaccurate information leading to your trip being cut short, it’s rubbish they didn’t make it more clear on the website that the trip was for two days and not two nights as well, so confusing! I definitely would have thought the same thing as you! Aside from that National Holidays sounds like a fabulous way to see some of Europe and I like that they sort out the hotel for you which saves the hassle. I hope you get to explore lots more cities before 2018 ends 🙂

Accommodation advertisements these days mention the number of nights not days so it is not misleading. They should correct their travel description to avoid confusion. But at least you’ve still enjoyed it, I haven’t tried being on a coach and on a national holiday tour too. I like your green checked coat, looks warm!
