9 Tips For Girls Who Don’t Have A Prom…

prom dresses

You might know the feeling already – everyone around you is getting psyched up for prom and you’re stressing about not having a date. Fear not. It’s not unusual to attend prom alone. We get it, though. You feel like you’re the only solo prom goer at school and you think it’s going to suck when all the couples head out onto the dance floor. But, if you understand what’s in store and realise there’s so much you can still do and enjoy, you can have the very best prom experience.

Here are a few ways to prepare but know this: you will survive!

Take Plenty of Selfies

When you look back at your prom pictures 10 years from now, you’re really not going to care about some random date you may not have spoken to since prom. You’ll want to see how stunning you looked in your dress. Speaking of which, you can choose from a selection of cheap red prom dresses in short and long style.

Bust Out Your Best Comedy

Go on, make jokes all night long. Push in between your friends that do have dates and be the third wheel – embrace it. They’ll be fine with it.

Have a Jam

Or, an anthem. Something that will get you on the dance floor and dancing like no one’s watching.

Realise You Don’t Have to Do Any Slow Dances

Let’s face it, most people with dates aren’t even in relationships on prom night, and the slow dances make the top of the list when it comes to awkward moments. Good news – you don’t have to do any of it!

Use Slow Songs to Head to the Bathroom and Freshen Up

Ditch the slow songs and head to the bathroom to primp yourself so you look picture-perfect all night long.

It’s About Your Buddies

Prom isn’t about some random one-night date who isn’t your boyfriend. Your friends are far more likely to want to hang out with you on the night, since it’s the perfect occasion to get all glammed up and celebrate with your crew. Realise that it’s more about your friends and you’re sure to have a great time.

The Guys Are Probably Not Your Type, Anyway

You’re a mature young lady, so the guy of your dreams is probably already in college and you just haven’t met him yet.

It’s Only a Few Hours of Your Life

If it’s really bothering you, realise that it’s only really a couple of hours of your life.

Prom Isn’t Going to be the Only Big Night of Your Life

You really do have tons to look forward to. Prom has high stakes, but it’s so unnecessary. Sure, it’s a fun chance to get dressed up and celebrate, but you’ll have tons of weddings, jobs, college and even babies ahead of you. Sure, it’s scary to think about all of that right now, but things do get better. Just think about it – do you really want your life to be all downhill from here? Doubt it!*DISCLAIMER: *This article is published in partnership of Mediabuzzer. It might have some affiliate links.*

So, head out on the dance floor and have the time of your life!

I’m afraid I missed out on going to a prom. Maybe it’s for the best?
I’m terrible at anything EXCEPT slow dances.
It would have been fun (and maybe my best comedy) wearing the dress if I could have afforded it. I never got one.
The dresses at PromDressShop look pretty. I would have loved having selfies in one of those dresses..

    • March 8, 2018 / 7:42 am

I didn’t do prom either. Yeah maybe its for the best.
Hahaha….I think most of us are.
Yeah it would have been fun indeed and yes you could have afforded it and more.
Same here and couldn’t agree more. Thank you very much.

Hi Missy. I love the tone and energy of this piece! I never had a date for prom, but I tell you what I did have: a big group of badass friends and we had a fantastic time! It’s so true what you said about it only being a few hours of life. I never had a prom date and never had a boyfriend, but guess who’s happily boo’d up now?

I think my computer ate my comment 🙁

Anyway, these are nice dresses and good points too – prom is all about having fun with your friends, that’s what you will look back on, rather than who your date was (in my experience anyway, haha!)

Hope you are having a good week so far 🙂 I’ve lost my voice so not the best week for me, haha! I’m trying to rest up.

Prom was just okay. I would’ve been fine just staying home. I did love my dress though. It was coral. That’s when I learned I looked good in that colour!

This is a clever post! If I would have known something like this on my prom night, I wouldn’t be so sad not having a date (yes, I didn’t have but I still went :)). So true, it’s about you and your friends not really about the guys. I love the first red frock, so beautiful! Have a fun weekend dear!

    Hi Missy!
In italy we don’t have the prom tradition in high school. It’s a shame because we would have really loved to live this kind of experience, obviously live it in the way you suggest, with no stress.
We think about it as an opportunity to have fun with friends, with o without a date, it doesn’t matter! 🙂

These are some great tips! Having dates wasn’t made into much of a thing when I was at school – we all just went with a group of friends and had the best time together!

    Musings & More

Thank you Emilly. Yeah school dating isn’t really much. Lol! Good to hear that.

  21. March 11, 2018 / 12:30 pm

These tips are amazing and so important! My high school at the time decided that nobody could go to prom with a date; everybody just went alone and met there. I wish they’d do this everywhere, no one would have to feel like they can’t go.

I’m surprised when I found out that it’s a big deal in other countries that a person should have a prom date to the point that they have find creative ways to ask someone to be their prom date. I’m glad you shared this post! This is a great reminder that prom isn’t about having a date but enjoying it. I had fun dancing with my friends and eating during my prom ❤️
